See original discussion here: Adding the Alcatel Virtualized Service Router to VIRL - VIRL - Dev-Innovate discussion and support community
Before starting, you will need to get a copy of the Alcatel Lucent VSR virtual machine; Please do not asked for the TiMOS qcow2 image you will need to source this from http://www.alcatel-lucent.com/products/virtualized-service-router245. I would recommend VSR vRR or VSR SIM flavours, both are emulation of ALU 7750 SR software and hardware configurations with a single control card and a line card that supports up to five Gigabit Ethernet ports and one or more CF devices.
Use your ALU userid and password to download from http://www.alcatel-lucent.com/support64 . Make sure you have an active service agreement under which you are entitled for downloads.
To add the ALU VSR image into VIRL follow the steps.
1) Login to your User Workspace Management and select Subtypes from the menu.
2) Click the Import button located on the top right-hand side and paste in the following config.
"plugin_desc": "Alcatel SR 7750 reference platform",
Do not allocate less than 1.5GB of RAM if you don’t want to face ramdom crashes…
Then click Import. This will ADD the new subtype to your existing list.
3) Now select Images from the menu and then click Add
Select the TiMOS subtype and enter 12.0 for Name/Version and Release , under Source select Local image file and click Browse and select your VSR qcow2 image file and click Create. After a few minutes you should see a message saying the Image " TiMOS-12.0" has been created successfully.
4) Open VM Maestro and click File -> Preferences -> Node Subtypes and click the Fetch from Server button, then Apply and OK
5) Open a new topology and drag theTiMOS node from the Palette.
6) Click on the TiMOS node/object and make sure you have a VM Image assigned as below, your number will be different.
7) Start the Simulation and login to the device using the Console port.
When the VM is booting up, do not hit any keys and wait for the "Login:" prompt. The default username for ALU VSR VM is admin, with admin as default password.
First thing you need to do is configuring basic management access.
Because the VIRL management IP address is assigned at runtime, we have to configure our management port on the ALU VSR to MATCH the one assigned by VIRL at run time if we what to use telnet from the menu.
at the prompt, type:
bof address IPaddress/mask
for example I haved used:
bof address 172.16.1.51/24
Once this has been done, test the OOB connectivity from TiMOS CLI using a ping command. Make sure to source the ping from router management since bof interface is mapped to this router by default.
You should be able to access the device using your SSH client over the flat network. Telnet server is not activated by default in TiMOS. To enable telnet server, just run the following commands :
configure system security telnet-server
With that done, you have to enable the card and interfaces for data-plane purpose. By default, one card with a 5 GbE ports I/O module is provisionned but not activated.
at the prompt, type:
configure card 1 card-type iom3-xp-b
configure card 1 mda 1 mda-type m5-1gb-sfp-b
Check the status of the card and ports with the following commands :
Then, enjoy the rich features set of Alcatel TiMOS !
Unless you configure your ALU VSR with a license (do not ask for any licence here, please get in touch with your ALU business contact), the VM will keep rebooting every hour. Just issue a show system license to check how much time you have till next reboot. Do not forget to admin save your config so that it should be there after reload .
