Congrats on your CCDE Written success! I know of several fully-certified CCDEs who did not previously earn a CCIE certification. It is certainly possible. The biggest obstacle for them appeared to be understanding the time commitment required to pursue a Cisco Expert-level certification. There is quite a difference between the CCDP and CCDE, just as there is between CCNP and CCIE!
Hi All, i wrote and passed the CCDE written in 2012, attempted the lab in Feb 2013 and i can tell you it is as Jeremy says very far from ccdp to ccde. I am again attempting the lab this year in Nov so i can allow at least 5 months of intense study. There is a lot of info for ccde on cisco live website. I am sure technically you are all very capable. The tricky thing with the lab is you need know it all and then apply as well as apply business thinking and consider costs.
Good luck with your prep it will be well worth in the end for us all.
I will post links to sites i am using for my studies. Jeremy also has a bootcamp you can attend.
Posted from my mobile device.
I consider that I started with the CCDA and CCDP back in 2001.
I recommend the Cisco Live sessions and the Cisco Valdidated Designs.
I put a book list over on my blog - just use my name and blogspot and it comes up on Google.
The list is expansive.
I've been taking a look at the backgrounds of the test writers and comparing it against the blueprint for items to focus on for the practical.
The CCDE Written is intersting since I have not seen a class offfered for it. I just took it and crossed my fingers.
I passed the CWDP - Certified Wireless Design Professional Exam and the ACMA 6.1 - Aruba Certified Mobility Associate Exam the same week.
I've got a lot of various experiences over the years and have technically challenged (interrogated/crucified/etc.) over the years too.
Materials to prepare...
1. I'm working on a global enterprise project.
2. I'm working on a cloud-based project that integrates with the core of the network and is quite interesting.
Both of those are subject to NDA.
I'm considering a few other design/architecture projects to keep myself occupied.
I found that a lot of the processes, procedures, and prototocols play quite well to the CCDE and hopdefully the CCAr too.
Yet to be seen.
I'm writing up 3 of my Wireless Design Projects to help qualify for the CWNE Certification.
I'm going back to reading books and Cisco Validated Designs.
I worked through several design guides on Trill and FabricPath last night.
I also covered DCB (Data Center Bridging) -> I've been using this for a lot of Data Center Designs lately.
Prior to this: I spent a hard week working on Multicast.
Before that I spent I don't know how long on MPLS.
The list goes on...
I have a lot more to go.
I had booked CCDE LAB seat at 15 May 2014.
Now repairing it, plan to complete CCDE before 2015.
There are good share CCDE experience for Himawan:
Follow myself experience, read book, ciscolive ppt/pdf, and do lab, then summary it:
Btw, there are Cisco Validated Designs resources:
