I'm new with Cisco ASA and I would like increase my skill on it with a test environment.
I'm currently running on 9 in production and I would like know if is it acceptable to run in 8 on my lab to do some test and learn.
I can run in 8 with gns3 and in 9 with a physical hardware but for a limited time only
Can you explain to me the differences of 8 and 9 ?
I'd recommend going with 8.3 or later. The differences in 8.x and 9.x are too much to post. Here's a link for reference:
Update: Gilgalidd, I didn't even know I did that till you pointed it out, LOL. My bad. Link updated.

If you go forward to CCNP security, you'll want to work with both 8.2 and 8.3.
9 isn't on the tests as of when I took them.
A list of new features in v.9.
