I received my 2950 and 3550 in the mail, and seeing how I've never had actual equipment, I don't know how to log into them. I bought a usb to serial cable, and I connected the console cable to the 3550. I'm on a Macbook, but I don't know where to go. I've gone to Terminal Monitor, but once there, I'm not sure what to do. Could someone please advise on how to get me to the switch IOS? I've never used actual equipment before and I'm stuck, and now I regret relying on simulators.
Thanks for the help.
I have TeraTerm and Putty for Windows and linux, it looks like they have those for MAC too... Tera Term is free download, after you download it, connect the cosole to coputer and open up Tera Term and use serial connection from the Tera Term and u will have your config window there... Good Luck and Have Fun!!
Anyone? I need some help here, and can't locate it via online. I'm just asking a general question. Now that I've connected to my pc, what do i do next? I do not see the connection in Device Manager.
Thanks for the help. For the time being, i decided to just worry about connecting via my Macbook later, and just using my PC now. It works great, and let me add, it's a beautiful thing working with live equipment. I can't believe I wasted all that time with simulators. What a disadvantage that has placed me at.
On your PC, amke sure it can see the USB port / serial cable. Plug it from USB to console port on router.
Open up putty, secure crt, terra term, whatever one you are using, and set the connection options to:
9600-8-N-1, and select the correct serial port. Windows device manager is a good place to look for actual serial port number.
Once your terminal program is set up, simply connect and you should get a prompt of some sort
