Hi, I was just wondering how the security specialist exams work. Do you get a certificate or some
form of formal recognition when passing one of specialist requirement?
For example, to the the Cisco IOS Security specialist, you simply have to pass 642-637 SECURE.
But everyone doing CCNP security has to take that.
How does this work?

The 642-637 SECURE exam is associated to certifications in the Professional and Specialist tracks.
The obtain the Cisco IOS Security Specialist, candidates are required to have a valid CCNA Security certification (pre-requisite) and pass the 642-637 SECURE exam.
