Dear all experts :

I have ip phones installed in my network connected to switch 2960 and the dhcp installed on router 1841 so i made 2 dhcp pools one for data and other for voice

so HOW CAN I inforce the ip phones to get ip address from voice dhcp pool not from data dhcp pool is the command on the interface which is swichport voice vlan 5 is enough?

what does make the ip phone to acquire ip address from voice dhcp pool not from data dhcp pool?

    Make sure Voice Vlan has Option 150 in DHCP statement and ip helper-address ;

    Create 2 Vlans on switch: Voice and Data with separate subnets..

    Cisco IP phones  will use CDP; non-cisco phones must be manually config.

    CDP passes Vlan info to phones so that phones know Voice Vlan ID and tag their traffic.

    Switch trunk wil carry phone traffic to CME router.

    You need to have a layer 3  interface (physical or SVI) with an IP address configured in the same range as the DHCP subnet for the Voice vlan.  Also, as Martin said, you need to make sure the option 150 <dhcp address> is configured under the DHCP pool for the Voice Vlan.

    Again, please provide the configuration and we can better help you.

    do you have subinterfaces created on the router for VLAN2 and VLAN 3?  You would use the IPV4 address of the TFTP server in the Option 150 command.  This is where the IP-phone will get its various configuration files from.

    can you show the configuration of the router connection to the switch?

    Lets say your TFTP server IP address was 10.100.100.1, then the configuration for the voice DHCP pool would be as follows:

    ip dhcp pool 3

    network 10.3.0.0. 255.255.255.0

    default router 10.3.0.1 255.255.255.0

    option 150 ip 10.100.100.1

    the 10.3.0.1 should be the IP address configured on the router subinterface for VLAN 3.  make sure there is a route to the TFTP server in the router.

    Again, looking at the configuration would be very helpful.

    You need trunk running from switch to router, do u have one?

    either have two links or do sub-interface on router and router-on-stick.

    u can attach sh run of router?

    can a PC get IP from DhCP?

    there are some good examples of voice setup; did u search forum?

    configure port security on interfaces with IP-phones with a maximum of 3 MAC addresses.

    I would recommend reading SWITCH OCG and the SGC for the 2960 switch.

    Re: dhcp pool for voip phones?

    you need three, one for the IP phone, one for the internal switch in the phone and one for the PC connected to the phone.

    OCG = Official Certification Guide

    SCG = Software Confuguration Guide
