I was doing the practise modules for CCNA Wireless on Cisco learning network and got confused by the question in module 2 and module 6.
More specifically Q.33 in module 2 and Q.5 in module 6. From the result of the practices, "show run-config" can be used to backup WLC configuration and "show running-config" is used to dump configuration onto screen as the same format as other Cisco devices. But I did not see any difference by running these 2 on a 4402 WLC.
So what is/are the difference between "show run-config" and "show running-config" on controller CLI? I know "show running-config" is alias to "show run-config" but any others?
there are a few different ones like that, also "show run" after a while of the CLI and asking questions on here and with futher studies you will find a lot of short cuts like that. It just comes with time and experiance.
Just like copy running-config startup-config there are shortcuts for that also.
There is no difference they do the same thing display the running configuration of the router or switch.
It depends on what code version you are running. Back in the old 4.0 train, there was a difference, it's been so long that the difference escapes me. But with newer versions, the 2 commands now do the same thing.
Thanks, That is actually making sense to me.
I tried both on a Version 7.* WLC and I did not catch the difference. Just hope Cisco does not present this kind of tricky question in exam
Remember that the current CCNA Wireless exam is based off of the old 4.2 code, so any features that are in that code are certainly possible to be on the test. I would look up a user guide for the old 4.2 code and verify the differences bettween the 2 in the old code.
That is new to me...
I thought Cisco keeps updating the exams to reflect the current Cisco offerings.
But again, thanks for letting me know.
They do update their exams, they just haven't gotten around to updating CCNA Wireless yet. The CCIE was just announced with an update to be tested on the 7.0 code. We are just waiting for announced updates to the CCNP and CCNA Wireless certs as well.
We know they'll come, we don't know when. Cisco will typically announce when those updates happen.
no difference they will show you same running configuration in Routers and Switches.
There is a difference between these two commands and I learned when I was sending config info's of our WLC's to Cisco TAC and was purposely advised to send us the output with the show run-config, after that when I checked on the controller it gives you the options to display running or run-config which was quiet interesting and surprising then I compared the same config outputs with these commands in the word .doc which were different as well so there is always a room to dig out further I am still curious to know that what exactly the difference is didnt see this option neither in Nexus or 6509's only in the Cisco WLC 5508. Look forward to hear from experts.
(Cisco Controller) >show run?
