I just want to ask if Cisco supported OM4 on their SFP optics, specifically on 10Gig tranceivers? I have to link Nexus 7K to 5K with more than 400m distance and only currently have SFP-10G-SR (MMF). Because it is more than 300m (OM3), if we use OM4 will it work? Your quick response will be greatly appreciate.
2000MHz*km MMF (OM3), up to 300m link lengths are possible for SFP-10G-SR (MMF)... For more than 300m we required SFP-10G-LR Transceiver..
Try to Re-Arrange the N7k and N5k with in 300m and route cable in shortcut.
Thank you for your suggestion Natarajan.
FYI... Currently Cisco is working with IEEE to get OM4 supported as a standard as per my Cisco SE. Short answer SFP-10G-SR can support OM4 but not official yet. Thank you.
Since OM4 is backward compatible with OM3, you would thing that SR's can work... What I am not sure about is the distance for OM4. I know that OM4 supports longer distances for 40 gig and 100 gig than OM3 does.... of course, it all may depend on the transmitter.
