What are the circumstances under which you would want to change the HSRP virtual mac-address?
The mac-address reserved for HSRP is 00.00.0c.07.ac.xx. I have read that there are rare circumstances wherein you have to change the virtual mac-address. But what would those rare circumstances be?
We could have port-security on, controlling how many mac addresses are on the port, and not want an extra one for HSRP. In that case using the command:
would allow us to not have the extra MAC. If failover occurred, then a gratuitous ARP should update the clients ARP cache.
Another reason to change it, would to make it more visible for the output of show commands, (slightly more noticable anyway), such as 0077.7777.7777 or have some other naming standard for it.
Just some ideas.
Allright, now that makes some sense to me.
