For some reason, I can no longer set the background image in Packet Tracer. Also, I used to see a list of images to choose from when I clicked the "Set Background" button.
Know I no longer see a list of images. Furthermore, when I browse to an image and select it, nothing happens. It is as if PT is ignoring the command to select the image.
Can anyone tell me what may be going on?
you broke your PT
they are in backgrounds in c:\program files\packettracer 5.3.1\ folder
use Browse button to get there;
there is reset and apply buttons; I guess reset makes it go back to default ?
Your first statement was actually correct. I did break PT.
Unfortunately the only way I could fix it was to re-install PT.
Also unfortunate, trying to change backgrounds again, quickly broke it again.
It appears that there is a flaw in the software design with regards to using custom backgrounds.
Overall I love PT and believe it is an invaluable tool. Hopefully a fix will come out for this issue.
yes, I forgot to add re-install option;
I am trying to Brake my PT right now let see what happens;
there is newer version of PT; 5.3.2 - people say many bugs are fixed
I could change backgrounds.
It was after I changed the background that odd things began happening. It seems to be an issue with how the path is being stored. Sometimes, I simply couldn't revert back to the default image (couldn't change the path back). Sometimes, even though I saved the document, when I closeing and re-opening the document it would revert to the default image (or path) on its own.
I will try the new version. Maybe it will not have the issue. I don't think it would be an issue with my OS (Windows 7).
Thanks for ckecking Martin.
Also, I was changing the background on the physical side rather than the logical. I haven't tried the logical side so I don't know if they would behave differently.
If you are referring to setting the background images, save the file, and re-open in another computer, and the background don't show, then that is because the background files are not directly saved with the files. Only the paths are saved. That would mean your other computer must have the same images in the same paths.
On the other hand, you CAN save the file and the images together in a PKZ file. Do a file -> save as pkz. Choose a filename, then you will be given a dialog to to add files to this pkz. You can add anything, including html files your pka references, background images, lab manual, anything really. Once saved, when you reload your file in another computer, all of those extra files will be available to be referenced by your PT file.
