Hi everyone,

I passed my CCIE R&S written last May and have not yet taken my first lab exam. My written exam is set to expire on the 11th of November. What i would like to know is if i can go ahead and retake my written exam now to revalidate it for another 18 months while i continue to prepare for the lab. Would i have to wait until after November 11th? or can i do it when i please?

Anyone with any experience or knowledge on the subject?

You can take it whenever you want.  The rule states that you must wait 5 days to re-take if you fail, and if you pass, you can not attempt it more often than once every 180 days.

    Hi Gary,

Yes, if you pass the written it will renew all your entry, associate and professional level certifications for 3 years and specialist for another 2 years from the date you pass the exam.  It will also extend your initial lab exam for 18 months.
