Salt status failed ||DNS and Ping was successful but Port 4505 and 4506 are connection refused.

      Hi All,

Currently I am unable to communicate the Cisco virl with Cisco remote server.

Please find the attached snapshot for the same :-

Both the port 4505 and 4506 are allowed in firewall and also able to see the success logs in firewall but still both the ports are failed to communicate.

      virl@virl:~$ nc -zv eu-1.virl.info 4505-4506

nc: connect to eu-1.virl.info port 4505 (tcp) failed: Connection refused

nc: connect to eu-1.virl.info port 4506 (tcp) failed: Connection refused

Able to ping the Cisco remote server from Cisco Virl :-

      virl@virl:~$ ping eu-1.virl.info

      PING vsm-gwy-12-1.virl.info (173.38.221.75) 56(84) bytes of data.

      64 bytes from 173.38.221.75: icmp_seq=1 ttl=42 time=150 ms

      64 bytes from 173.38.221.75: icmp_seq=2 ttl=42 time=151 ms

Can anyone help in solving the above issue.

      Thank You in advance.

      Regards,

          Hello Deepak,

Based on your current information provided, you'll need to use the latest SALT Masters:

          Salt Master Settings

Once you have installed VIRL, apply for VIRL license key as per the installation instructions.  You should enter at least two salt masters, picking a number between 1 and 4. Do not enter the same number twice! You can list up to four salt-masters.  When specifying multiple salt masters, separate each one with a comma followed by a space; as shown below.  Update your salt-master list if needed.

          US (external only)

          vsm-us-51.virl.info, vsm-us-52.virl.info, vsm-us-53.virl.info, vsm-us-54.virl.info

          EU (external only)

          vsm-eu-51.virl.info, vsm-eu-52.virl.info, vsm-eu-53.virl.info, vsm-eu-54.virl.info

          AP (external only)

          vsm-ap-51.virl.info, vsm-ap-52.virl.info, vsm-ap-53.virl.info, vsm-ap-54.virl.info

Note that in order to maximize availability and redundancy these master names may at times resolve to servers located in adjacent zones.

The Reset keys and ID dialog within the Salt Configuration and Status page of UWM makes this process easier by providing a default set of Salt masters which can be selected by either clicking the US or the EU button for the respective set of masters.

          Thank you,

            Hi Karlos,

Thank you very much for the quick response.

I am new to the Cisco Virl and hence will require step by step help from You.

Please find the attached capture and below query:-

Karlos :- The Reset keys and ID dialog within the Salt Configuration and Status page of UWM makes this process easier by providing a default set of Salt masters which can be selected by either clicking the US or the EU button for the respective set of masters.

Deepak :- Do you mean, I Just need to Click on Reset keys and ID and select the Salt server and perform the reset and it solve the issue.

            Additional Query :-

            • Will it help by clicking on any of the "List of Salt servers" and apply reset.
            • Before performing the reset, do we need to open 4505 and 4506 port for Salt server.
            • Do we need to allow any other ports while communicating the Salt server.

            Thank You in advance

              Hello Deepak,

              To answer your questions:

Deepak :- Do you mean, I Just need to Click on Reset keys and ID and select the Salt server and perform the reset and it solve the issue.

              Yes, this is correct.

Will it help by clicking on any of the "List of Salt servers" and apply reset.

Yes, this will auto-populate the correct Salt Server names.

Before performing the reset, do we need to open 4505 and 4506 port for Salt server.

Yes, please open TCP Ports 4505 and 4506.

Do we need to allow any other ports while communicating the Salt server.

No, those should be the main ports required for License Activation.

              Thank you,

              Karlo Bobiles
