Connecting 1 node shows multiple connections/interfaces

    simon

      Hi

Ive just installed VIRL for the first time, using ESXI, things seemed to look and run ok. That is until i started a simple layer 2 switch topology.

Ive found even though im connecting just 1 cable/connection between nodes, when I do a show spanning tree, or show ip int brief, im seeing multiple interfaces all connected up rather than the ones ive specified.

Ive tried searching for this in the forums but im obviously getting the key words wrong as i cannot find any answers.

I also read that interface gi0/0 can be shutdown. And if i go in, i can manually shutdown all the interfaces that are not required. But this seems incredibly clunky, i must be missing something. I cant believe this is how the product is sold.

For example, i have a simple layer 2 topology, using 3 switches. Each has a single connection to each switch. the typical spanning tree setup for learning. Im expecting just 2 interfaces to be forwarding/block etc. but instead i see in this case 11 interfaces up and forwarding. I can go in and shut down 9 interfaces, but that surely isnt how its supposed to work?

Any help would be thankfully received.

      Simon
