What is the first valid host on the subnetwork that the node 172.17.234.22/22 belongs to?

I'm new here, but here goes.

first network with that subnet mask would be 172.17.0.0

Next network would be 172.17.4.0 then 172.17.8.0 and so on.

172.17.234.22's network would be 172.17.232.0

The first available address in that network would be 172.17.232.1

I'm probably wrong, but that's my guess.

your first usable host would be 172.17.232.1

1) Convert to binary

2) Logical AND

Remember  - 0 (AND) 0 equal 0 ,0 (AND) 1 equal 0 ,1 (AND) 0 equal 0 ,1 (AND) 1 equal 1

So the subnet id is 10101100.00010001.11101000.00000000 - 172.17.232.0
