Hello John M Manning, Have you made any system configuration changes recently; like upgrade or changing IP address from DHCP to static or other similar changes? Please provide more detail pertaining when the problem was first noticed and when your server was last known to be working as expected. This information helps me when reviewing the logs.
Also, please run VIRL Server Config Validation script as outlined in the guide and respond with the output text file.
And just for giggles I tried to fire up a very small lab again and it almost came up, but then it hung, my cpu proc spike to 100% and then saw this on maestro

Sometimes this error will be for for the PC's, (which are just routers) Just thought I'd share this as well.
John M Manning Have you made any system changes to your VIRL server? Looking at the logs it appears that some Openstack services are not able to communicate as expected. While the validation script shows all Openstack services running, UWM logs shows that it is not able to communicate to the databases as expected. If you have not made any changes, I would recommend to run the following commands:
sudo vinstall salt
sudo vinstall rehost
Once complete, reboot your system and check again.
I ran both scripts. During the first one I kept seeing error messages like this scrolling through the screen until it finally said I had to reboot:
when it prompted me to reboot, I did and launched a lab that had worked and started to get these messages:
Any ideas on what is wrong? Like I had said, I just fire up the laptop and started virl. I wouldn't even being to know where or who to make any changes to the virl server.
No dice. I created a new profile, Mike, change the master credentials to guest/guest, it didn't work. So then I created another new user "guest" and used guest/guest...nothing.....
So I re-read the instructions again. I deleted "Mike" and "guest" and recreated Mike and again used guest/guest and it's failing
ok here it is
Are we getting closer? I have my NP switch test in four weeks.....I could really use lab time.
If you say I need to add guest as a user....the instructions for adding a user didn't seem to allow me to add such a user. I appreciate the assistance, but do you have several steps for me to try? These one step a day are taking a long time. I guess I'm getting frustrated that this program just went south on me for no reason......
John M Manning, the instructions I sent were only meant for VM Maestro. My earlier question was asking specifically if you had deleted the user 'guest' from your system. Please log into UWM and create the user 'guest' with password 'guest' and then try again.
To clarify, the user 'guest' may be removed if you rather not use the default account but another user must be defined as 'uwmadmin' is not allowed to start simulations.
