    CCNP Wireless books

    Jared

Although there are no books that directly relate to the new CCNP Wireless courses & tests.  I have found a number of books that should help in CCNP Wireless studies.  Please understand that some of these books are "old" and will probabley not include newer technologies such as 802.11n.

      For CUWSS (Site Survey) Exam

802.11  Wireless Network Site Surveying and Installation

For IUWVN (Voice over wireless) Exam

      Deploying  Voice over Wireless LANs

      For IUWMS (Mobility) Exam

      Mobile  IP Technology and Applications

      IP  Design for Mobile Networks

      IAUWS (Security) Exam

      Cisco  Wireless LAN Security

Other misc. books that may be helpful.

Deploying  and Troubleshooting Cisco Wireless LAN Controllers

Business  Case for Enterprise-Class Wireless LANs, The

802.11  Wireless LAN Fundamentals, Adobe Reader.  This book may be more of a CCNA Wireless level.

I will be working on CCDA at the same time, but my first test will be the site survey test.  I have an old Site Survey class on CD that I will be reviewing.

          Hi Jared.

If you are posting in the CCNP Wireless Study Group, that must mean you passed your CCNA Wireless exam.  Congrats!

            Hi Erick,

I was posting on the CCNP Wireless group and boards before, but then found that between all the various study groups and work and life in general I stretched myself a little too thin, which is why it took me so long to knock out CCNA Wireless.  I am actually going to look into CCDA and will be doing that and CCNP Wireless at the same time.  I am planning on having a CCNP Wireless test renew my CCNP... when the time comes.

You have wireless experience.  Do you already have your CCNA Wireless?  You would be a great asset to our group if you want to join us for the CCNP Wireless.

Anyhow, since there are no offical CCNP Wireless Exam certification guides out yet, I took the liberty to search for some material that may help and came up with the list that I posted.

              Hi Jared.

I really happy that you passed your exam.  I know you have been working really hard for it.  I think one of the reasons I am not pursing the wireless track is that there really is no formal training for it.  Yes.  I have wireless experience, but I don't know wireless like you guys know wireless, if that makes any sense.  I don't really feel like I have much to contribute unless a subject that I am using gets mentioned.  I know I've said it before and I'll say it again.  I am really glad I decided to continue the CCNP track I initially pursued.  The wireless topics were very helpful.

I wish you the best on CCDA, and CCNP Wireless

                Hi Jared,

Thanks for posting the books that might be helpful in CCNP Wireless studies.  Are these books sufficient for all 4 of the CCNP Wireless exams, or do we have to wait until the official exam guide is published from Cisco press?  Because like you referenced some newer technologies might not be included in some of these older books.

                  Hi Alex,

I really don't know the answer to that.  I have not seen a firm release date on when or if CiscoPress will release Certification Exam Guides.  They didn't for the latest incarnation for CCSP, due to lack of demand.

So, because there are no official study materials out yet, I went ahead and did my own research and posted what I found.  The only other options would be to sign up for classes with Cisco Learning Partners, but that can be pricey. That is not an option for me, it's just not in the budget.  All of my efforts have been self study.  I do hope that CCNP Wireless books do get released, but until then, these may be a start.

                  Regards,

                    Hi Jared,

I just recently read a post where someone did mention that they might have Ebooks available next month for CCNP Wireless.  But we can only hope that is true right!  Also Congrats on passing the CCNA Wireless.

                    Regards,

I saw a post that stated that as well.  If I remeber right, it said they'd be out in March.  Well, March is almost over and I have seen no hint that they are comming.  I checked on cisco press under the comming soon tab and there was nothing about CCNP Wireless.  Therefore, I go back to the books that I posted before.  They are a starting point.  It wouldn't suprise me if there wasn't anything out due to lack of demand.  CCSP was the same way.  But, with the books I posted and some study group participation and some good cisco.com docs, I still think one may be able to pull it off without official exam guides.  It'll just be a little harder.

There is always the idea of taking a course from a Learning Parnter.  I would, if I had the money.

                        Jared,

In a conversation with Eric N. (Cisco TAC Trainer), he advised that the training given to TAC is based off of the training that the Cisco partners have and Cisco.com documentation. Everything that they are looking for is available on Cisco.com, it is simply a process of getting it and ensuring that there are no errors. That being said, I do not mean to imply that it is a simple task, a lot of hunting and reading and proofing. I am grateful for the list you posted as I intend to start on it  along with the RFC that are noted in the CCNA Wireless Cisco Press book. One of the issue that we may very well not come upon with the CCNP Wireless study group is going beyond the scope of what is to be covered or expected to know. I am sure if we take the CCNP Wireless Syllabus and compare it with the CCIE Wireless Syllabus it will encompass the needed topics.

Wish I were able to provide more now,

                          JC,

I had a similar conversation with him.  That is also kind of what I did for CCNA Wireless, except I used the Cisco Press book as my base line and found docs on cisco.com to suppliment it.  For CCNP Wireless, there are no cisco books out yet, so there is no base line.  So I am trying to create one.

Who knows, maybe we will see official CCNP Wireless books later on down the road.  In my case, it's not like I don't have anything else to work on.

                            Hello Jared,

You never know, Cisco Press may be calling you very soon to write some CCNP Wireless Books... . I am really looking forward to delving in the to entire makeup of the LWAPP Hearders. I was talking with John F. the other day about the C-Bit. It is only mentioned on two pages and those are of steps where it is set to zero. It brothers me that things are mentioned then it will go on to state that it is beyond the scope of the CCNA Wireless level, starts to pull you in and then says never mind that. I'll be glad to proof your CCNP Wireless book too...

                            Regards,

LOL.  I never did enjoy writing.  I am actually going to be focusing on CCDA for a little bit and we'll see what happens.  Although, I am really considering buying the site survey book, just for a good work reference and not necessarily for certification reasons.

As many of you know, Cisco Press is releaing some Quick reference ebooks for the CCNP Wireless certification.  There has been some discussion and speculation as if these quick reference books will be deatailed enough to help one pass the exams.

                                The books are:

On a releated note, the author of these books is Jerome Henry, a well known and repspected wireless expert, CCIE Wireless to be exact and fellow CLN member!  I had a good PM conversation with him about these quick reference books.  With his permission, I will post his feedback.

He said "Well, the content of the quick  reference is very close to the course content... all the information is  there. The downside is that where you will have one sentence in the  quick reference, you may have a full paragraph or even a whole page in  the course of a self prep guide. So if you use the quick reference, you  pretty much have to be sure to remember almost everything..."

This gives me some hope for these quick reference books and I am very excited to get the Site survey quick reference a try and then test to see how it goes.

                                Cheers!

                                  Well thts excellent news.

I received training from Jerome and he is one of the best engineers I have ever met. Also I woul say one of the foremost authorities on Cisco Wireless, he has imence practical experience so the study guides should be excellent.

On a learning note its worth while being honest with onesself in that if you know  it great, if its a little vague then dig a little deeper. At this level there shouldnt be much that is out of scope!!!!!

I just hope those dates are good now.

Henry is the author of "only" two of the quick reference books (the CUWSS and IUWMS) according to the Cisco Press pages, but maybe he's a technical reviewer for the others.

Yes, the publication dates have been shifting, and those you posted are already history, as some of the books have been delayed until July now, see here where I've updated them a few times: https://learningnetwork.cisco.com/thread/11353
