CCNA expiring in September 2012, take new or old IINS?

      Hi guys,

My CCNA will expire in mid September 2012. I am working a lot with ASA devices on my regular job and would go for CCNP Security sertification, which means I would need to pass CCNA Security. But, since the new exam appeared just recently, I thought of going with 640-554 instead of the old one. I saw that you can book the 640-554 exam on Pearson VUE right away, way before 1st October, but Cisco site says that if you book prior 1st October 2012, you need to learn for the old exam.

Can I take the new exam before my CCNA expiration date, in order to recertify myself and have the new topics on the exam? I surely wouldn't like to pay 250$, learn by new topics and then have the old one on the exam and then fail or pass with low score.

Also, the list of changes for 640-554 is quite big, and I personally would prefer more to study for the new one, since it has some ASA chapters.

      Thanks for your help!
