Hi, is there a way to get a layer 2 network over mpls?
So I want vlan 166 to come into pe1 and out the interface connecting from pe2 to cpe2. I know traditional mpls would use one subnet between pe1-cpe1, and another subnet between pe2-cpe2. However, I want the interface working at layer 2. I know one solution would be to scrap MPLS and just use switches to create a QinQ ring between pe1 and pe2,: but is there another way that is also very scalable? The reason I'm asking is because I don't like spanning-tree broadcasting over the backbone.
Yes, it can be done.Virtual Private LAN Service (VPLS) is a way to provide Ethernet based multipoint to multipoint communication over IP/MPLS networks says wikipedia. You need bgp,mpls,ldp connection between PEs. Search for "xconnect" command and pseudowire. You can also change vlan - on one side use 166, on second something else. You can also transport anything over mpls - even serial links, sonet,... (Atom)
