What are Discussions?

Discussions have a forum structure where one user can ask a question or start a conversation and many others can reply. Discussions can be long or short, depending on the depth of the information and the interest of the users participating.

You can start a discussion asking for career guidance, talk about the Cisco certification process, puzzle through a work issue, or any other topics relevant to the other IT professionals in the community.

Where can I start a Discussion?

You can start a Discussion in several places:

From the New menu at the top of each page, click on Discussion.

From the Your Stuff menu at the top of each page, click on Discussions.

From any section of the site (e.g., Careers, Connections,Certifications, Learning Center), click on the Discussions icon in the top banner.

 

From the Actions menu at the right side of many pages, click the Start a Discussion link.

From any group, click the Start a Discussion link on the Actions menu on the right side of the page.

How do I post a new Discussion thread?

On the right side of the page you'll see an Actions menu with a link labeled "Create a Discussion/Ask a Question". Click on it, and you'll be prompted to Post New Thread. Choose the area on the site where you'd like the Discussion to take place-- in Careers, Connections, Certifications, Learning Center, or in a Group.

 

Then you'll be prompted to create a Discussion Subject and fill in the body of your Discussion.Marking a topic as a question will let others know you are looking for assistance and will allow you to evaluate and choose the best answer to your question.

Can I attach a file to my Discussion?

Yes, you can attach a file to your discussion. File types allowed include .pdf, .doc, .gif, .jpg and .ppt, among others.Use attachments like diagrams or PDFs to give further information about your discussion topic. The maximum file size is 20 MB.

What is a Tag?

Tags give other users more information about the content of your discussion. This will allow people searching for certain types of content sharing a similar tag (e.g., wireless) to find all relevant discussions, documents and blogs with that tag. To publish your Discussion, click the "Post Message" button at the bottom of the page. Learn more about Tags here.

Where can I participate in Discussions?

You'll find discussion threads in each section of the Cisco Learning Network. Choose the area -- Careers, Connections, Certifications, Learning Center, or Certification Study Groups that best fits your interest, and browse the discussions there. Discussions are a great place to get your questions answered, meet other IT professionals, and learn more about Cisco technologies. Join a discussion now!
