A job in mobile networking means Noel stays at the front of a fast-paced industry. He lives in Dublin, Ireland, and works as a Principal IP and Security Engineer for a leading mobile network operator. It's a young company with many young employees, so the culture is work hard, play hard-which is just fine for Noel.

"I like working with mobile technology because it's really fast moving," says Noel. "The company wants to embrace the latest technology, which means I get to work with all the new devices. I find it really challenging and worthwhile to take the latest piece of equipment and get it to work properly on our network."
Working in a team of nine engineers, part of Noel's job focuses on future planning for the network. He also participates in managing network security, which includes responsibility for investigating sensitive security incidents. Noel became interested in data communications while he was a university student pursuing his degree in electronic engineering. Now that he's working, he has expanded his learning by obtaining several Cisco certifications in the area of security, as well as routing and switching.

In his wildest dreams for the future, Noel would like to create a cure for Aids which would help to relieve suffering around the world especially in 3rd world countries. But for now, Noel plans to pursue a Cisco CCIE certification. "I know that preparing for the CCIE exams is a huge commitment of time and effort," he says. "But the work will be worth it because the CCIE is held in such high regard in the industry."
