    What's Your Story:  Elvin Arias

    When a scholarship program offered support for studying technology, Elvin Arias jumped at the chance. He now has  been in IT since 2008 and earned his CCNP in 2012.

     

     


     

    Elvin Arias was born and raised in the Dominican Republic--in a town called San Jose De Ococa. As a child, he envisioned working in science or economics. Winning a scholarship to study technology, provided the kick-start to a career in IT, where he has been since 2008.


    What is your current job?

    I am part of a group of network technicians and administrators for a government entity. I really like to monitor, maintain and troubleshoot the technologies that build the communication on the network. For the last few months, my main focus has been network Security.


    What do you like most about the Cisco Learning Network:

    I like being able to collaborate with other people about different technologies. I've learned a ton here on the Cisco Learning Network.


    What training have you had including certification?

    - Tecnólogo en Redes de Información, Las Américas Institute of Technology (ITLA), Dominican Republic

    - CCNA R&S (2010), CCNA Security (2011), CCNP R&S (2012)

    - University: Ingeniería en Tecnologías de la Información y Comunicación - Universidad Iberoamericana (UNIBE)


    What are you most proud of in your career?

    Being able to work and do IT related stuff at the professional level. I would really like to acquire additional certifications.


    What are your hobbies?

    I like to listen to music, study maths, whach TV series (Game of Thrones, Dexter), play with my dogs, and watch movies.

     

    Do they have any advice for other Cisco Learning Network members?

    Find what you would like to do and start building your professional career based on that. There is a plethora of possibilities: Routing & Switching, Security, Voice, Wireless, Data Centre, and others. Finding a mentor is always a idea good, too. Be patient and never give up!
