2012 Cisco Designated VIP
2012 Cisco Designated VIP
Brian Schoonover always wanted to be an engineer. From his early days in school, math and physics captured his attention, so becoming an engineer just seemed to Brian to be "the logical choice." It didn't hurt that his father was also an engineer.
As a shift lead engineer, Brian gets to work on the largest “intranet” in the world, the Navy Marine Corp Intranet (NMCI) Program, which serves more than 700,000 users, processes nearly 100 million email messages per month and prevents roughly 5.2 million unauthorized intrusion attempts monthly as well.
Brian graduated with high honors from New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) with a Bachelors in Telecommunications. He attributes his IT career success to his education, his military experience--as a U.S. Army satellite communications chief and platoon sergeant--and his CCENT, CCNA and CCNP. After the Army, Brian became a SATCOM Network Engineer for a small ISP in Hawaii that provided IP data, voice and video services over satellite throughout Asia and the Pacific Rim Basin. This work gave him his chops on Cisco Routers, Switches and Firewalls.
Brian is currently studying for a CCIE in Routing & Switching and says 2012 is his year! We know he'll make it, because when asked what advice he'd offer to others heading down a similar career path, his answer: Perserverance --it's what really makes the difference to being successful. "Don't give up!" he advises, "Don’t look for the easy way out. Integrity is what makes you whole."
Brian cites the Cisco Learning Network as his favorite website. He enjoys the discussions, blogs, the success stories and the job portal link...in fact, he likes everything on the site. We can tell. Since he joined in spring of 2009, Brian has racked up 3,238 points and has provided lots of community support in the form of his highly effective “Quick Facts” documents on a variety of learning topics--in particular, his popular “IP Subnetting Made Simple.”
Thank you, Brian, for all you do! We're delighted to have you in the Cisco Designated VIP circle. It's contributions like yours that makes The Cisco Learning Network a great place to be! Keep 'em coming. Congratulations!
When Anthony Sequeira (CCIE No. 15626) was growing up, he wanted to be a teacher. And that is exactly what he became--a very high-end, specialized teacher. Anthony is a special instructor and writer of materials for Certification Exam preparation for one of Cisco's authorized Learning Partners, StormWindLive.
Anthony was always fascinated with computers and networking technology. He began his career in the information technology industry in 1994 with IBM in Tampa, Florida. He quickly formed his own computer consultancy, Computer Solutions, and then discovered his true passion—teaching and writing about Microsoft and Cisco technologies. Anthony already holds a CCIE in Routing and Switching and is currently pursuing his second CCIE in security and a VMware Certified Professional certification as well.
Anthony joined the Cisco Learning Network in November of 2008--the community site's first year and, since then, has has racked up a respectable 886 points and has made a significant number of contributions to the site, including a number of well-received training videos he created just for the Cisco Learning Network community (see an example at https://learningnetwork.cisco.com/thread/31736)
Anthony is delighted to be providing assistance to others in the community who are just getting started and is inspired by the amount of support that seasoned IT professionals provide on the site. "I absolutely love the discussion forums," Anthony exclaimed "It is amazing to see the awesome level of support that people from around the world receive there from some of the giants in the industry."
Asked what advice he would give someone considering a similar career / certification path, Anthony's response is very clear: "Set a goal--so, for example, "CCIE R&S by Dec X, of 201Y." Then build a detailed study plan in order to achieve that lofty goal."
We're very pleased to have Anthony join the ranks of Cisco Designated VIP on the Cisco Learning Network. Congratulations, Anthony! Thanks for all your support thus far and we look forward to continuing the great relationship!
