"I have a clear understanding of how the network works, step-by-step. Each day in this role at Cisco is different with new things to learn and new areas of expertise to build. When something is not working as designed, we solve it and make it work by identifying where the problem lies. It is like finding the missing piece of a puzzle. This level of understanding could have never been possible without Cisco certifications."
What's your job title now and why did you choose this job?
I am a Customer Support Engineer with Cisco. I took this job after I did my CCNA studies with the Cisco Networking Academy. There I was able to practice in the labs and really engage and learn the curriculum. I got exposed to huge networks and troubleshooting scenarios when I participated in Cisco NetRiders.
What's really cool about your job?
Each day is different with new things to learn and new areas of expertise to build. When something is not working as designed, we solve it and make it work by identifying where the problem lies. It is like finding the missing piece of a puzzle.
What was the path to your current job?
I went from being a student to a Cisco devices caretaker after I earned my CCNA.
What education and training (including certification) led you to where you are now?
I was trained to understand each and every part of a whole network system, including learning how they are integrated with each other and how they work together. I have my CCNA, CCNA Voice and CCVP.
Why do you choose to learn Cisco technology and what are the key benefits of being Cisco certified?
Cisco is the one company that has been responsible for the tremendous growth of the internet. No one knows networking better than Cisco. There is no better way to learn about the network and no other certifications that are as beneficial to have than from Cisco.
How does your employer/manager view Cisco certifications?
I am part of the Cisco family. We all know how important certification is in the industry and how challenging it is to earn any of them, especially the CCIE. I got this job because I had my CCNA certification.
Where would you like to go next in your career?
I would like to earn my CCIE and be a consultant who helps implement large networks.
What’s your suggestion to the students who are doing the Cisco certifications?
If the network is the area you want to concentrate on, I would say there is nothing in the world comparable to the courses and certifications provided by Cisco. Even if networking is just an interest, I would encourage individuals to try reading through some certification course material. It is easy to become passionate about networking.
