The following topics are general guidelines for the content likely to be included on the Cisco Leading Virtual Classroom Instruction exam. However, other related topics may also appear on any specific delivery of the exam. In order to better reflect the contents of the exam and for clarity purposes, the guidelines below may change at any time without notice.


Prepare yourself and your physical and virtual environment for conducting an effective virtual classroom session
  • Set up the trainer's physical and virtual environment including preparing the attendee environment
  • Prepare yourself for facilitating in a virtual training environment
  • Develop contingency plans for common difficulties
  • Review course materials and address any areas that are unclear or may lead to learner confusion
Demonstrate effective classroom management skills in a virtual classroom setting
  • Manage technical problems provide basic support to users to troubleshoot common audio, Internet, hardware, and software issues
  • Keep sessions on track by responding to relevant questions, keeping participants focused during learning activities, and managing disruptions
  • Use industry standard best practices for time management
Provide clear instruction and guidance to learners on how to apply acquired skills & knowledge during and after the session.

          - Educate students on how to use online sharing tools (like desktop sharing) to  demonstrate their competence with a given task

          - Guide learners through the process of using online tools to practice skills through simulations, role plays, or other group learning activities

    • Use sharing features when appropriate, including application, presentation, desktop, etc.
    • Use white boarding or white space to enhance instruction or group process
    Select and effectively use tools for collaboration that are appropriate for achieving intended objective or desired result
    • Choose appropriate collaboration tools from among: Annotation, Chat, Q&A, Polling, Video, Pass Presenter Role, Remote Control
    • Use chat, polls, and other feedback tools to allow all participants to collaborate
    Use voice modulation and audio techniques effectively
    • Use appropriate modulation, vocal inflection, tone, and volume, varying pitch and emphasis to avoid speaking in monotone
    • Convey energy and enthusiasm
    • Make appropriate vocal adjustments (pace or volume) in response to participant feedback
    • Create an effective audio environment, ensuring a quiet presentation space and that participants have audio as they join
    • Limit use of filler words (such as: um, ah, you know, etc.)
    Judge student comprehension using effective instructional practices
    • Check in at regular intervals to gauge comprehension
    • Adjust instruction based on feedback and/or behavioral cues from participants
    • Evaluate knowledge levels by asking questions that assess how well participants can recall, understand, and/or apply session content
    • Review content or adjust pace of delivery to enhance comprehension if required
    Manage participation effectively
    • Identify different question types and determine when to use each type
    • Employ effective questioning skills to involve learners: ask open-ended questions, wait after asking questions, let people volunteer
    • Ensure most participants are responding and interacting at the desired level
    • Gauge when to control the facilitation process versus when to let interaction flow
    • Facilitate interaction between participants to achieve balanced participation among class members
    • Define how participants should participate (use chat, raise hand icon, speak up) and reinforce desired behavior
    • Manage participation effectively using online communication tools such as chat, emoticons, participant panel, Q & A, etc.
