Technologies and skills needs are evolving faster than ever before. To keep up with the pace of the changes, we are introducing a new agile process for exams that will provide minor revisions, generally representing changes of less than 20 percent of the material (exam topics, equipment list, and software). The minor revisions will enable IT professionals to certify on the latest skills, knowledge, and technologies while minimizing the learning curve between major track revisions.
Having already successfully used this new agile process for the CCIE Service Provider and CCIE Wireless tracks, we will now be using it to update the CCIE Data Center certification.
This document summarizes the updates between CCIE Data Center v2.0 and v2.1 and is useful for candidates who have already begun the certification process on v2.0 and will complete certification on v2.1.
The CCIE Data Center exam will be updated with a minor revision to help candidates stay at the forefront of technologies and skills. The updates are highlighted in this document. The revisions include:
The updated exam curriculum lists the updated domains for the written and lab exams, with topics represented in the updated exam blueprint. The overall (technical) change between the CCIE Data Center focused revisions (2.0 and 2.1) is less than 20 percent. Over the last two years, there have been changes in industry and Cisco data center strategies, and the exam topics are being updated so candidates certify on the latest expert-level skills and technologies.
Topics such as Cisco Intersight, interfabric connectivity, RoCE, and Cisco CloudCenter have been added. Topics removed include Cisco FabricPath, Cisco RISE, vPath, Data Center Bridging, Cisco UCS Central, Cisco Process Orchestrator, and Cisco ONE Enterprise Cloud Suite.
The complete list of changes is below, and the updated blueprint can be found here.
There is also an updated segmentation within the six domains to align the track to the current Cisco data center portfolio, as well as to improve the logical structure of the exams. An important change in this minor update is to make the exam topics more explicit and highlight all the technologies that focus on a particular task and subtask.
More information about the unified exam topics approach can be found at : The New CCIE Exam Topics and What They Mean to You
Each domain lists tasks that the minimally qualified candidate is expected to be able to perform.
Note that the exam topics serve as a general guideline for the content that is likely to be included in an exam. However, other related topics may also appear in different exam forms.
Please refer to the Cisco Learning Network for the list of exam topics covered in the updated CCIE Data Center written and lab exams and for more information about the CCIE Data Center certification program.
CCIE Data Center v2.0
CCIE Data Center v2.1
Compared to CCIE Data Center v2.0, the domains remain almost identical. The main difference is in alignment of the topics and changes in weighting, as shown in the table below.

The CCIE Data Center Lab Exam v2.1 environment is updated. There are no updates to the lab exam hardware, but changes are being made to the software releases to accommodate some new technologies and features. Candidates who want to prepare for the exam using hardware equipment are now advised to use the following Cisco equipment and software releases:
No changes have been made to the CCIE Data Center exam format in this minor revision. The CCIE Data Center written exam number (400-151) remains unchanged. The lab exam format also remains unchanged and consists of two modules, the Diagnostic module and the Configuration and Troubleshooting module. The Cisco Learning Network provides more information about the lab exam format.
