CCNA Journey Ends...

Posted by Bradley Graham Oct 22, 2012

I apologize for not posting to the blog a bit earlier, but wanted to post and let you know that I have completed my journey back to CCNA certification. I learned several lessons along the way that I hope will serve me moving forward.   1. These aren't the exams I remember from long ago and as such I needed to study a lot more than I did in the past for the exam prep. I learned a lesson ... Read more

CCNA Retake Imminent

Posted by Bradley Graham Sep 25, 2012

I only have a few days to go and I have been reviewing the chapter notes that I have taken across both books. While I was cleaning out some books in my office, I came across my old CCIE R/S written notebook with all of my routing and switching notes. I haven't seen this book in 6 years+. It has come at the perfect time too as I have about 50 pages of written notes. Some of it is out of scope for ... Read more

Here I've been sitting and studying when I've been able to for retaking the CCNA exam. I haven't posted in quite some time and that is my fault. It was an oversight and it's more of the same right now for me really. I'm simply trying to review when I can and get ready to retake it. Although I had reported the incorrect time frame for my exam when I posted last. I have a few weeks still before I ... Read more

New Exam Date Set

Posted by Bradley Graham Aug 7, 2012

I have my new exam test date set for the 2nd week of September. Until that time, I will continue to review WAN and Wireless for the remainder of this week. Beginning next week, I will be going back through all of the study materials to be sure that everything is fresh in my mind. I'm currently on an every other day study pattern and hope to step that up as the new test date gets a bit closer. I ... Read more

Adding Wireless

Posted by Bradley Graham Jul 30, 2012

I have continued to review the WAN technologies over the last few weeks and I have added wireless LAN into my study set. I thought it best to continue to study up on the WAN stuff as I added wireless into the mix. Based on their percentage, these were the two weakest areas of technology for me on my exam. I really want to be able to work some additional study time into my schedule as it has been ... Read more

L2 WAN Review

Posted by Bradley Graham Jul 23, 2012

I have been spending the better part of the last week working in review of PPP, HDLC, and Frame Relay. I have made it a point to review not just the technology but the configuration tasks as well. My problem area is less about how they work and more about recalling the commands required to configure each of these. I haven't used any of these on a live network is some years now, so the ... Scheduling Troubles

Posted by Bradley Graham Jul 14, 2012

I have had quite a bit of trouble this last week trying to get time to study. I hope to be able to plan some time this week to get back into it, but have been quite busy with work and homelife recently. I will keep you updated within the next few days of my progress. Hang in there with me! Read more

CCNA Study Continues

Posted by Bradley Graham Jul 5, 2012

I have gone back through my exam report and have laid out the studying and review in the areas that I was lower on in score. I'll likely review everything just to be safe, but looking to focus on the problematic areas. I'll be doing a deep dive on Frame Relay and other data link protocols to be sure that I have those firmly in hand. Based on my current schedule, I likely won't have much time to ... Read more

I Miscalculated...

Posted by Bradley Graham Jun 29, 2012

I am posting today to provide my thoughts on my exam experience and to discuss some things that I learned about CCNA as it stands today, but first things first. As much as it pains me to admit it here on the blog, I failed the exam by 10 points. As someone who generally does well on exams, I was surprised by a few things and I was proven wrong on a few others: The CCNA exam is much different ... Read more

CCNA Exam This Week

Posted by Bradley Graham Jun 24, 2012

I've gone through the IPv6 material and I must say I'm still not all that comfortable with it as of yet. Certainly not to the level of IPv4. I need additional work on it to feel confident about that exam topic and that's the reason why I'm reviewing IPv6 this evening. This week I will be reviewing the highlighted portions of my exam guides and then writing down what material I feel is either ... Read more

Good evening all,        Sorry that it's been a few weeks since my last post. I've been preparing for my exam next week and have been reviewing Network Address Translation (NAT) / Network Port Address Translation (NPAT), and IPv6 as my last two topics. I need to study up on IPv6 a bit more than most topics because I haven't really done much work with it up until now. ... Read more

Supernetting Review

Posted by Bradley Graham May 31, 2012

I have been reviewing routing and some other tidbits over the last few weeks in the ICND 2 Exam Certification Guide and I came across something interesting. There is some discussion about classful route summarization as well as what is referred to as “choosing the best summary route”. Choosing the best summary route is defined in the book as “The summary route with the smallest ... Read more

Good afternoon all,        Now that I have my exam date set, I'm hoping that this will allow me to be a bit more structured and diligent with my study. I am set to take my exam at the end of June. This is part my doing and part availability at the closest testing center. To that end, I've been reviewing access-lists the last week or so when I've had some time to do so. ... Read more

I have been reviewing network routing over the last week and I can definitely say that there are some nuances for routing and related configuration tasks that had leaked out of my brain over the years. It seems like the longer I work with network security, the more my brain releases previously know tech bits. This is the reason why I am reading up on everything again anyway. I've started to ... Good afternoon all. I hope studying is going well for everyone. I’m still finding it difficult to set aside time for study right now, but I am managing. Last week I had said that I would be discussing default routes today, but in order to get into the network routing I wanted to take a few moments to discuss a shortcut that I use for network addressing. Specifically, it’s a shortcut ... Read more
