Looking Good, Especially If You’ve Got Some Training Behind You

 

This blog hasn’t yet talked about the salaries that come with your efforts to train and rise through the networking ranks, but the recent release of the Robert Half Technology 2015 Salary Guide makes it a good time to do that. Two pieces of the report are particularly relevant to you!

 

 

First, here is the change in salary from 2014 to 2015 for networking roles in the United States and Canada:


Network Administrator

  • 2014 salary range: $66,750-$99,500 (U.S.); $67,250-$88,250 (Canada)
  • 2015 salary range: $71,250-$105,750 (U.S.); $70,500-$94,250 (Canada)
  • Percent change: 6.5% (U.S.); 5.9% (Canada)


Network Engineer

  • 2014 salary range: $86,250-$124,250 (U.S.); $84,750-$111,250 (Canada)
  • 2015 salary range: $90,750-$131,250 (U.S.); $88,250-$116,500 (Canada)
  • Percent change: 5.5% (U.S.); 4.5% (Canada)


Wireless Network Engineer

In all but a couple instances, the Robert Half Technology findings show at least a 5 percent increase in salary in a year’s time. What’s more, the salary guide indicates that for all of the positions mentioned above, you can add 9 percent if you possess Cisco network administration skills.

Surveys and studies often point to other job factors, such as opportunity for learning and career growth, sense of satisfaction, organizational culture, and relationships with fellow team members and managers, as more important to happiness than salary. Nonetheless, while money doesn’t bring happiness, it doesn’t necessarily hurt either! The Robert Half Technology Salary Guide indicates that technology professionals remain in high demand as companies worry not just about recruiting talent but retaining it, and this reality should keep IT salaries competitive.
